February 2017

Great news - Stage One is now complete!!

We have received approval for Stage One of Warner's Bay Community Garden.
This has been due to the tireless efforts of so many individuals, and now means we can look to our next stage which includes the construction of a lockable shed, garden paths, more raised garden beds, formal garden paths, and a central rotunda, plus a much more usable garden for all to enjoy.
This work will commence once we have a suitable Project Team in place, so anyone with suitable skills is encouraged to talk to the committee.

February 2015 - Compost Bays

Our compost Bay Working Bee was well attended on 15th February. The last post was cemented into place at about 7 pm. After such a hot day, we enjoyed a few raindrops as we packed the equipment into our vehicles. Great effort everyone!

October 2014 - Work Begins

Work has commenced on Stage 1 of the Warners Bay Community Garden at the Bunya Park site! After many years of planning, it was amazing to finally get started!

The 18th of October was a beautiful sunny day and we had a fantastic turn-out of volunteers to help with the very first steps in the construction of the garden. We started work on installation of a sediment fence that will remain in place whilst the swale is being constructed and planted out in the coming months. It was a very productive day and a lot of fun for those that came along with a sausage sizzle and chance to get to know each other a little better.

On 25 October a group of volunteers gathered at the garden once again to start work on our swale. The swale is a low ditch & mound that helps protect the native bushland from any sediment or nutrient runoff from the Community Garden. It was a very hot day - but great progress was made and everyone enjoyed a lovely lunch together.
There will be lots of work to do in coming months, and it's easy to get involved

April 2014 - Construction Planning Team

We are calling for volunteers to participate with a team to oversee the planning and scheduling for construction of Phase 1 of the garden. This is a very exciting time and there is lots of work to be done to get those garden beds in Bunya Park. We would love you to be involved and would especially like to encourage members with the following skills/facilities to join the team:

  • Project management skills
  • Material storage
  • Surveying
  • Landscaping
  • Native plants
  • Bobcat equipment and/or driver

Please register your interest by the Contact Us form on the website.

April 2014 - Bunya Park & Council News

A lot has been happening over the last few months. We can proudly say we recently achieved the following milestones in regards to the DA:

  • Vegetative Management Plan (VMP) approved
  • Land Use Agreement approved
  • Member's Manual (Operating Manual) approved
  • Construction Certificate (CC) issued

Also, if you've been past Bunya Park recently you may have noticed the nice shiny new bollards that have been installed by council. Our understanding is that all the old wooden bollards around the park will eventually be replaced by council as part of their normal maintenance plans in Lake Macquarie. What this means for WBCG is that the first stages of construction will be able to commence very soon.
